Your first visit...what to expect

Have you settled for less than optimal health, and learned to just 'deal with pain' as part of your life? Our society has come to accept less than optimal health in exchange for our busy, more stressful, faster paced life.

We aim to help our patients achieve their optimal health.

On your first visit, we will have you fill out the appropriate paperwork. A complete history of your chief complaint and any associated areas of complaint are taken before beginning the physical examination. At Active Health Chiropractic, we pride ourselves on our thoroughness and dedication to finding the real cause of an area of complaint. Our immediate goal is to relieve any pain that you may be experiencing, and our long term goal is to ensure that that pain does not return.

The first visit consists of a comprehensive history and physical exam and most times treatment.

Following the results of the history and the examination, Drs. Vuong will speak with you to let you know if you are a candidate for chiropractic care. If your doctor discovers a condition that is not appropriately treated with chiropractic, he or she will refer you to the proper specialist for that condition.

If you are a candidate for chiropractic, your doctor will discuss treatment options and home care recommendations.

We look forward to working as a team with your other health care professionals to treat your whole person.

It is important to understand that how long you choose to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you. Pain is usually the last symptom to arise and the first to leave.

First Stage is Relief Care also known as acute, initial intensive, or symptomatic care. Under this stage people wait until they are in pain, before consulting a chiropractor. The main objective in this phase is to decrease the amount of pain and get the patient feeling better.

In the beginning, frequent visits are usually needed to relieve aches and pain, and begin the healing process.

Second Stage is Corrective care, an approach that focuses on proper body functions. Soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc.) often remains once the pain and aches have subsided. Corrective care focuses on the stabilization and strength of the joints and soft tissue with the intent to complete the healing process.

At this time, the frequency of visits will decrease and you may be encouraged to continue therapy with supplements, exercises, and massage therapy.

Third Stage is Wellness Care. Wellness or maintenance care is periodic “checkups” to maintain optimal health and to detect new problems before they become serious.

A good way to look at chiropractic is to relate it to tooth decay or heart disease. We all know it takes a long time to develop a cavity or heart disease, but with regular maintenance, the plaque doesn't have a chance to build. Similarly, it often takes a long time to develop a spinal misalignment. But with regular maintenance, the bones will not have a chance to get out of line.
